When Autumn slipped into the clearing, Peter noticed the dramatic change in mood. The air sort of shifted, and that cold, unfamiliar feeling crept back into the boy's body. His chest felt squeezed, as if something heavy had been placed upon it and whom ever had put it there was sitting on top. He didn't like it. He wanted to shove him over the edge of a cliff and throw the weight down there with him. He wouldn't even bother watching as the guy and his heavy load toppled down the cliffside and into the murky depths below. He'd just walk away. That's how pissed he was(and I was when my post didn't come through). But he took all of this in stride, having regained any bit of sensability he had in him, and managed to twist his face into the normally blank expression he was so used to wearing. Life sucked.
He almost expected her to walk away, then thought better of it. Autumn wasn't the type to walk away from anything. Well, she never used to. He wasn't so sure anymore. She'd changed so much since that day months ago when she'd fallen by the hand of a wolf-demon. He didn't know what to expect from her anymore, especially not now after his frustrating discovery. He wasn't even for sure that she'd thrown the book in the first place. But that wasn't the point, was it? And even if it was, why was it so... frustrating - for the lack of a better word. No, instead the girl took a seat near him and gazed up at the stars. There was barely enough room in that pathetic excuse for a clearing for the both of them, but they were both a little skinnier then the average teenager and managed to spare a little extra room. He averted his grey eyes back to the sky after a sweeping glance at the soldier and begun counting the stars, purposely distracting his mind from wandering off again. The last thing he needed was to fall into a reverie with Autumn sitting a foot away.
They sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Just like that used to. That night, the one that had changed their pathetic lives, had started out exactly like this. He didn't know how this one would turn out. He wasn't sure if he hoped it would be like the last, or compleatly different. All he wanted was for things to clear up a little because this whole thing has been screwing with his head so long that his judgment has been so fogged that he doesn't know what to think about anything or anyone. He doesn't even recognize himself anymore. And that, my friends, is just how pathetic the whole thing was.
"What'd ya do?"
"Tree. OOC: Well that was -tries to restrain self from using again but fails- pathetic.

letpeter hadn't been the only one to notice the change in air in and around the tiny clearing...autumn just chose to ignore this. it wasn't until she had wasted her time alone that she had finally began to realize just how much she had changed since she had returned from her coma. she had basically set up what could have been the only friendship she actually had with peter and then, when she woke up, she threw it all aside. perhaps that nightmare had affected her more then she first noticed, more then she had even wanted to admit. this wasn't the first hellish nightmare that autumn had been through, especially with her father kindly sending her bits of her past and this definatly wouldn't be the last nightmare she was forced to encounter....and yet, this one had affected her more then any others from the past. she had witnessed her mother's murder in her nightmares for three years and yet, this one nightmare out-shone everything else. why was it that one nightmare about peter could throw every other nightmare out of focus? perhaps, it is because this will happen. her voice sounded cold and gaurded....but, even with the facts, autumn refused to believe peter could turn into the creature from her nightmares.
if she didn't believe it, then why were her hands balled into tight fists once more? her thoughts were cut short by a single word uttered from the teen across from her. "Tree." autumn didn't need to ask another question to verifty his wounds. she had noticed that peter seemed a bit edgy since she had first entered the clearing, she had even felt it a ways away from the clearing. she had yet to discover his reason for being like this, or what the extent of this emotion was. "So, a tree jumped out....threatened to attack you and you punched it?" her reply had almost shocked herself, she had merely expected to nod and wait for the silence to drive them apart once more. And now, she was uttering another sarcastic comment. her comment was even followed by a tiny upturn of the corners of her mouth- a grin, if you will.
in this tiny clearing, autumn had nearly forgotten about cassandra, about her nightmare, about her current problems....instead her mind returned to the last time the two of them had done this. the last time they were left alone in a clearing long enough to talk....thing had taken a turn for the better- or worse. depending on whom was asked. that simple night, that simple contact, had thrown both of thier lives on a whole 'nother track. and autumn wasn't sure if she wanted to see what was at the end of this path or not. after all, before peter, autumn knew almost exactly what would happen to her.....she would fight....and she would eventually lose a battle and her life. it was really just a matter of when. but now, after peter, autumn couldn't see far enough into the future to know anything. this was what scared her the most.
after all, she was trained a soilder.....she was trained to know everything ahead of time. and now, suddenly things are turned upside down. thinking of the unknown furture brought autumn's thought back to her nightmare- or perhaps her mind never left. her head swimmed with images from the hellish scenes....one of which was with peter and rasputin standing side by side. they had looked so alike. before realizing it, autumn spoke again. "Peter, how do you know of Rasputin? What is it that you have against him?"

Autumn was quiet for a few moments. Peter could feel his muscles slowly relaxing and resented it. He shouldn't be relaxing. Not around anyone. Especially not around Autumn. It seemed like everyone wanted her dead, because no matter where they went, the girl was attacked again as soon as she decided she could take care of herself and didn't need Peter's protection anymore. The teen closed his eyes and groaned silently. Life had been so much simpler before he'd met Autumn... hadn't it? Now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure.
"So, a tree jumped out... threatened to attack you and you punched it?"
This caught Peter so off guard that he had to swallow a choking laugh too big for his throat. His eyes flew open and he sat up stiffly, pulling his knees up and looking Autumn over. But her moment of unusual humor that was waaaaay un-Autumn-like had passed, for she seemed to be lost in thought. Peter watched and observed as her expression changed ever so slightly, her eyes clouding with a sort of fear that sent a shiver down the boy's back. Finally, she spoke again, her voice graver then he'd ever heard it.
"Peter, how do you know of Rasputin? What is it that you have against him?"
This time Peter couldn't stop himself from snorting with disgust. He turned his head away and narrowed his grey eyes just barely, staring intensely at the ground, as if looking for something that wasn't there. How did he know Rasputin? What did he have against him? What did anyone have against him? He had every reason in the world to hate that sinister, twisted, murderous creature. He couldn't express his anger and hate in so few words. And yet, he could.
"He's my father."
He muttered, practically spitting the word out in a slightly uncharacteristic way.

she had missed it, missed the fact that she had nearly drawn some emotion from the half-breed before her. yet, she hadn't even found what she had said to be funny...she missed the fact that she was being humorus and thinking out loud for once. she missed the fact that she was being completely and utterly un-autumn-like. she was being funny and making jokes. perhaps that coma actually had changed her. even though she had suspected that much, autumn couldn't hide the look of raw shock that betrayed her when she had fought to show her usual emotionless mask. ever since rising from the 'dead' again, autumn felt more....human. before, she knew she was human, she knew she was breakable and she knew that one day she wouldn't survive long and her death would be a violent one- yet on that same note she nearly felt immortal when it came to mental whatnot. she had been known to stare into the eyes of a vampire bent on a vendetta and sent it screaming and running away from her and before this, should wouldn't have to think about hiding behind her mask. yet, her shock was quickly overcome and was replaced by her usual look. however, autumn had never really been that shocked by peter's reply....not after those nightmares. the thought of those life-like nightmares brought another not-so-hidden spasm of fear to spread like wildfire through the girl's body. absentmindedly, her hand found the hilt of her swoard, though she made no move to draw it from it's prision. after moments of silence, autumn seemed to shift back into the same mood she had been in before this.
" well, that was blunt and not to mention any fun at all"
the remark was followed shortly by yet another very un-autumn like reaction....her arms folded across her chest and her emotionless mask was replaced by faux disappointment. she had hoped he'd say some stupid remark that lead her into explaining why she was questioning him. yet, perhaps this was good. perhaps because of the fact that he had answered her question without grief meant that he actually trusted her. or did he? and could she trust him? she knew there was a dormant part of peter that longed to lash out now, that longed to drain her of every ounce of blood....her nightmare peter was waiting inside of her reallife peter; how long? how long until peter lost the cival war with himself? and yet, autumn was still curious....
"another prodding question! have you ever lost? i mean have you ever actually......" she broke off long enough to calculate her next words "lost contorl?" perhaps he'd get the fact that she was questioning him now on his vampire side....or perhaps he'd just stare at her like the idiot she was- either way, right now, she couldn't find it in her to care.

Love is always patient and kind... Peter rolled his eyes, but he had to admit that it was true. But what other answer was there? He could lie; he probably should have. Being Rasputin's son was just... his son... wow. Peter had never actually used that word before. But now he realized that it was true. Duh! If Rasputin's his father, then that kind of makes him his son. The teen could have hit himself for his own stupidity. But alas, what good would lieing do now? Besides, it's not as if it mattered anyway. Just because that evil, manipulative beast was his father, it didn't mean he was his dad. Peter didn't have a dad. A dad wouldn't have put his son through everything Peter had been forced to.
The boy's hand slipped instinctivly into the collar of his sweater, feeling for the scars that lined his shoulder blade. They were warm, as if still fresh. They stung as his cold fingers rang across them, but they were soon soothed by the cool feeling that rippled over his back and down his spine. Peter's expression had taken on that of someone who'd just wandered away from reality. He gazed out in front of himself blankly, memories flashing before his grey eyes as they stared into the trees. The corners of his mouth quirked down as he remembered, and for a moment, his guard was almost compleatly down.
He'd forgotten Autumn sitting there beside him. He wasn't aware he was sitting somewhere in the middle of the woods, where danger could be lurking around every corner. He didn't realize that his usually unlegible expression was now giving away the slightest hint of an undescribable pain. Peter was so lost in the moment that he didn't hear Autumn's question, and it took him a second to realize she'd even spoken. He blinked, coming to his senses, and turned his head toward her quizically. "Hmm?" he murmured, his face beginning to return to that blank mask he was so used to wearing. And then he became aware to the fact that he'd just slipped up in front of Autumn. He'd let down his guard and she had been sitting right there. He didn't know weither to curse himself for being moronic, or not to give a damn. After all, it was Autumn.
No! Of course you should care! It doesn't matter who it was, it still shouldn't have happened.
So how come that wasn't the way he felt now? It is never jealous...

OH IT'S LOVE! something was off. if it hadn't been obvious with peter's blunt answers despite how deep autumn was going with them, despite the fact that cassandra hadn't been wandering through the woods in search of her half-breed knight, despite the fact that peter seemed far away already- autumn had nearly missed just how far things were off, or perhaps this was just what had changed while she was off in some nightmare in a coma. what exactly had she missed? obviously the fact that peter thought he had little or nothing to hide from her anymore, which confused her further and again, reminded her that she should be hoping on a horse and heading straight for the king and into battle. yet, she was here questioning a half-breed with no intentions on leaving just yet. because she was so lost in her own pathetic thoughts, she had nearly skipped over peter's little 'episode' completely if not for the fact that he had been silent for so long....autumn would have never noticed. her gaze now fixed on the boy's face- annoyance and confusion flickering in her gaze like an open book. mumbling, she added.
"and i'm the one that's 'sppose to do that."
she half-heartedly joked, already knowing that he wouldn't have heard a word she had said. wait, her gaze focused on the teen's face once again...this time worry crossing the femme's face. was this a mental breakdown? autumn had heard of these before- people change suddenly and then fall into a coma. well, something like a coma atleast. perhaps she should slap him. the very thought of slapping peter, and the fact that peter was lost in thought and finally let his guard drop completely had turned the corners of her mouth up in a grin....something she fought in vain to hide. so, when peter had finally returned to the real world, there she sat with a stupid grin. hmph. was the only reply she had to his question at first.
"well. so much for that answer."
she grumbled, momentarily putting a fake scowl on her face. though she was back to using humor and stupid jokes, hidden worry lingered behind her gaze though she kept herself from meeting peter's gaze. what the hell? what could he have been thinking that would throw his gaurd away like that.
"just forget it, it wasn't important anyway."
she added quickly.

(MAN everytime I listen to that 'Stand Back Up' song by Sugarland I ALWAYS think of Autumn. Wow... I'm listening to 'Who I Am Hates Who I've Been by Relient K and realizing it sounds kinda like Peter!! O.o Weird...) 'Cause I Don't Want You Too Know Where I Am... Peter's gaze hardened back into that vague, grey (literally and figuratively) state that they were so used to holding. He hated vulnerability, and he didn't understand why he felt so much of it whenever he was around Autumn. He hated it almost as much as he hated his father. (You know what? I'm almost surprised she didn't mistake him for Rasputin the first time she saw him. I was just thinking about that. I mean, Rasputin obviously looks a lot different with the way he's styled, but I mean, they DO look a lot alike. -shrugs- Just felt like throwing that in.) The boy glanced at his sneakers, realizing just how torn and tattered they were. His black converses were stained by grass and blood. They were ratty and faded, starting to look grey even. Not to mention their shoe laces were missing. I guess he'd grown a little since he'd first… got them, because it was then he also realized that his shoes were rubbing against the sides of his feet giving him blisters. Very uncomfortable.
Before he could stop himself, he pulled them off his feet and set them aside. It felt so refreshing to get them off that he almost sighed. Luckily, this time he was able to catch himself before the sigh escaped his lips. He needed new shoes. He needed new socks for that matter, for these ones had numerous holes. He peeled his attention away from that very random topic and back to the current situation. Back to Rasputin. No, back to him and Autumn. Back to Autumn. Back to what he thought about her. To what SHE thought about HIM. But there was nothing to think about, right? He just happened to be there when she was having a bit of bad luck… again, and again, and again… And that night, it was all just an accident. Those stupid teenage hormones were all built up, and they just had to let themselves out. That was it.
Yeah, and you’re a teen beauty queen. Sarcasm dripped from the tips of those words said by a voice in his head (No, not like Max, and not his vampy side neither, just him talking to himself.) Idiot. You can tell he needed to work on his self-esteem… and his people skills.
(OMGosh I just saw the saddest movie EVER. Tis called Simon Birch which you would have watched part of it today for Sophomore Comp (Well, now you've seen the whole thing cause I started typing this on Monday and we just watched the end of it yesterday), but I saw the ending and was like AWWWWW! It made me cry! Not tears welling, but not balling neither, just a couple tears down the cheek. Twas sad. -nods- Okay sorry. Back to the post.)
Peter pulled the previous conversation out of his head so he could answer Autumn. "If it wasn't important you wouldn't have asked." Oh, yeah, he could be deep. (xD I'm sorry, I HAD to use that line. Okay, sorry, no more OOC until the very end. No wait… I think that was the end. No, no, one or two more lines. -continues typing-) As he said this, he managed to look at her again and keep eye contact. She seemed distracted, as he had been only moments before, but not quite as stand-offish as he. This brought up the ever-familiar question: Could he trust her? Could Peter tell Autumn something and trust her enough not to use it against him? But what else could Peter really tell her other than what he'd said already? He didn't care if she knew who his father was. At least, not anymore. And he didn't have any secrets to hide, right? Well… maybe that wasn't true. He did have secrets so dark that even he didn't want to remember. He certainly wasn't going to tell Autumn, if only to keep her from hearing them. He didn't want anyone to know. Hopefully, no one would have to. No, not hopefully. No one knew and no one would know. Ever. 'Cause Then You'll See My Heart In The Saddest State It's Ever Been...
(There. Finally. I just kinda threw that last part in there cause I was bored and need him thinking about something other then his shoes. -the Shoes song pops into head- NUUUUUU THE RETURN OF SHOES!!! -hits head with a bat-)

&& that's what you get- ×. Aha. So he does have more then one emotion besides 'emotionless'! Autumn nearly laughed at that very thought. As it turns out, not even the great Peter was perfect when it came to hiding all of his emotions all of the time. Even he had to break down once in awhile. She didn't know whether to be happy at the thought that she had finally seen Peter loosen up....even just a little bit or worried that he had either 1. trusted her enough to allow something like that to happen or 2. was just that used to her being around that what she had to say and/or think didn't bother him much anymore. Autumn decided that she would settle on being on worried about how close she was just now realizing she was to Peter. Peter was her best friend. Whether he liked it or not, Autumn considered Peter to be her best and one of her only friends. Was that sad or what? A vampire huntress and a half-breed best friends? What kind of cruel world was this?
×. Gah. Remind me next time we're in town to get you sommore outfits. Just because you're homeless and are rarely seen by many people- doesn't mean you always have to look the part. Autumn piped up after witnessing his sudden annoyance with his shoes- her tone both sarcastic and serious at the same time. Everything Autumn owned was actually bought by the king as a 'thank-you for risking you're butt on the line' kind of gift. And Autumn's reputation had gained her a lot of gifts from the king....so what was it to her giving a little bit of it away? Especially for someone who had saved her skin numerous times. Which reminded her- she needed to find Peter in a beat up state so that she could save his skin a few times to call it even. Maybe she'll stab him with a branch tonight when he- if he- slept and then claim there was a tree attack.....afterall....he seemed to be seeking a vendetta with the trees anyway. [[XDD]]. However, she couldn't tell if Peter had even heard a word she had said earlier because his face went blank suddenly- his gaze far off as if he was looking into the past.........again. Geez, she hoped that she didn't get that look everytime she remembered something. Now wonder why so many people worried about her health. Note to self: NEVER do that in public again.
×. When Peter finally spoke agian, Autumn nearly flinched with surprise---though, she was Autumn so she didn't flinch---she hardly even responded....it was an Autumn thing. Rolling her eyes slightly at his response. Yeah? Well if it was important then you would have caught it. She countered. Afterall, her question had been brought up out of curiousity and the fact that she wanted to know exactly what- if anything- could set Peter off into his full on vampire state. She needed to know what to avoid when chillin' with Peter.
×. Now it was time to get into the more serious part of Autumn's converstaion.....................war. She had always kept the idea fresh in the back of her mind- even though she was still recovering from a few old wounds and the fact that she had been away 'sleeping' for so long- she had to get back out on the lines soon. And she needed to bring up her leave with Peter. Because, after she was gone and after Cassandra disappeared- who in the hell was Peter going to follow around and protect then? Himself? Pssh, yeah right. Like he ever had a chance of returning anything back to normal again. Autumn vowed- just now- to herself that she wouldn't ever let Peter go back to being alone by hisself like that agian.....she wouldn't allow it. Not as a best friend. Nope. He wa cursed with her until the end of Autumn's pitiful life- which wouldn't be very long if she wasn't careful. Shaking the more humorus side of her off for a moment, Autumn's crimsion gaze rose to the brute across from her once agian. "Peter, whaddya going to do when I return to the front lines next month?" She questioned- hopefully he'd actually catch this question....

Romance Will Always Be So New And Love Will Save The Day... A hint of annoyance speared through Peter's chest at her retaliation. Was it really all that hard? He stitched the wound and moved on. It didn't matter either way. The breeze tossled the trees, making their hollowed trunks creak and moan grudgingly, waiting for death to pursue them so that they may finally fall only to rise again from their roots and begin the cycle once more. The boy and girl sitting among the trees were not so different from the trees, especially during these times. Perhaps that will change one day.
"Thanks." The teen muttered sarcastically. "I'll keep that in mind." Like he needed her help getting clothes. He was the one looking out for her, remember? Still, free clothes. Peter made a mental note to actually keep her offer in mind if they happened to go into town anytime soon. It could possibly be used for future annoyance. And then he shrugged his shoulders at the girl's next question. For some reason he wasn't sure of, she seemed to be asking a lot this evening. "Go back to the way things were I suppose." Honestly, he wasn't sure. He hadn't really thought about what would happen once Autumn was fully healed and ready to return to the everlasting battle.
"What about you? What are you going to do without me around to save your butt all the time?" He knew that would tweek her a little. But now that she mentioned it, he couldn't imagine things going back to how they used to be. He'd gotten so used to Autumn's company, had even begin to like her company, that he wasn't sure if he could go back to being alone. He'd been alone for so long, and then she came along. He'd helped people before her. But it had never been as redundant as this had. He would always help them, then be on his way without giving them the chance to even ask his name. Like it or not, Autumn had become a really good friend. He would go as far as to actually say she was a 'best friend', but he knew deep down that she was. Being alone again would be... different.
Maybe he should get a dog.
(One that didn't morph into some demon beast who would try to kill him.) If You Can Dream...

The teen let out a snort of both amusement and disgust toward Peter's last statement. At that very moment, she was torn between wanting to laugh and wanting to punch the kid in the face. Instinctively, her right hand curled into a small fist and then relaxed agian- repeating the motion until she decided that t'was only a jest. Once again, Autumn nearly grinned at how much she had actually changed. At one time, she would have killed anyone who dared to voice such a jest. She used to live by the saying 'Seasons change but, people don't'. But now? After undergoing change herself- how could she go back to that?
What would she do without Peter? Go back to being the heartless Autumn like before? Could she do that? There was way too many questions and what if's for her liking. Heaving a heavy sigh, she replied "I s'pouse......" She drawled "that I'll have to get stronger." Her remark only have jesting.
"Are you sure you can survive without me around bugging you all of the time?" She countered. Yep. She definately needed to get Peter a new look and some supplies before she left him. Tomorrow. She decided tomorrow would be the day. She would take Peter into town, get him some new clothes and supplies and then just disappear- a clean break. She wouldn't even tell Peter that she was planning on leaving him....she'd just mutter a soft goodbye and then run off. It would work just fine. Except she had no idea that fate had an entirely different idea for her in this comming morrow and then she'd run off and train for the next four months and train HARD. Nonstop for the next coming months. Yeah- what a plan. "Well, actually you'll have that Cassandra following you around. You'll have someone else to constantly save. Just like I never even left"

OOC// Okay, things are gonna get SENT-Y-MENTAL. Peter can't control hisself no more. But he's not gonna be TOO mushy. Just... heat things up a bit. And then, BOOM. Pride's gonna end up ruining the whole thing. And then, BANG. Kat is gonna go all WO-CHA!! on them and almost kill Autumn and poison Peter and yeah... -waves mini flag randomly-And now I wonder... If I could xXfallXx into the sky... Do you think xXtimeXx would pass... xXusXx by?
"Hmph." Peter murmured, nodding in what he thought might have been agreement, but could have been acceptance. To be quite honest, he wasn't sure what would happen when she left. He didn't like thinking about it. It only made him dizzy. He'd been so different when he'd met Autumn. Heck, he hadn't even expected to see her again after that first night. And when he'd bumped into her again, everything seemed to just... fall into place. He could still hear her teasing words the day she'd caught him snitching oranges from a local vendor. The mere thought of their constant differences was almost enough to make him smile despite himself. Almost. But not quite.
Not that he'd admit it. But somehow, he'd changed. Something he didn't think people could even do. But if he could, if the son of a bloody murderer, a 'half-breed' for heavens' sake, could actually change, did that mean anyone could? No. Not everyone. Some people could never change. Rasputin would never change. But he thought about Autumn, and how she'd been when they'd first met. She'd been so different as well. They'd actually been fairly alike in their independent minds and skillful stealth. And not to mention their strength and stubborn attitudes, all of which slowly deteriorated as time drew on together.
And that night! Oh that hellish night when everything had to turn so suddenly! Everything had been so mutated after that. So unbearable. They could hardly stand being near each other, and made an obvious point of avoiding each other. It had been an accident for God's sake! Why couldn't they move past it? But now, now they were relaxed again. More relaxed then they had been since that night. What happened this afternoon in the market seemed so distant now. But it still lingered dangerously in the air surrounding. It made the teen slightly uncomfortable. He ran a callused hand through his thick, tangled hair.
"Well, actually you'll have that Cassandra following you around. You'll have someone else to constantly save. Just like I never even left."
He was about to say he didn't think he'd have to deal with Cassandra for much longer when her last statement shoved his jaw back into place. Just like she never left? Did Autumn really think she could be replaced? By Cassandra of all people? "I don't think that's possible." he thought out loud, not realizing he had. When he did, he was surprised, a little embarrassed, but didn't take it back. "I... I mean... " Peter paused and sighed in frustration. Then looked up at Autumn briefly, having been staring at the ground in front of him. His grey eyes held the deepest sense of sincerity, though his hands twitched anxiously now. Peter couldn't stop himself from saying what came out next. "I mean... I don't think she -or anyone really- could ever take your place." he said quietly with a slight sake of his head. "You're... you're just too damn stubborn for any one to replace. Too cocky." he added, recovering from the moment of unguarded openness that had surprised even him.
Cause you know xXI'dXx walk a thousand miles so I could just see you... tonight...
