Michelle walked along the market place and sighed. "Can i have some pastries?" she asked one vendor, handing over some money, then walking on. Sniffing the air she breathed a sigh of reliefe when she could not smell vampires.

Closing her eyes Michelle remembered a time when she had not lived in fear, a time when she did not have a temper. A time befor her parents and family died. A few tears trickled down her face, as she remebered seeing her parents lifeless bodies laying there. "Here," the vendor thrust the pastries into her hands, mumbling a thankyou she walked away. Finding a corner she sat down and began to eat. She needed something to do befor she died of saddness and hate.

She hadn't been there long and she hadn't planned on being there much longer, just long enough to get a few more bandages for the castle and then split. It wasn't because she was away from the castle and the royal family, more along the lines of Jasiri disappearing and not returning that night. Normally Iekika wouldn't worry much about the king seeing that he could handle himself but now the entire kingdom was in war and every single person was feeling the pressure of this war. Iekika was a simple maid at the castle but because of the shortage of able bodied humans to fight for Jasiri, she had been training in the ways of battle. The thoughts of the king had distracted her through the rest of the town; already having the bandages and disinfectant she needed she was on her way out of town. Slight movement on a bench at the side of the road made Iekika look up again. There sat a tear-streaked girl. Though the tears had stopped falling, the streaks were still left behind. Sighing, Iekika sat on the bench next to her.
"Hey. I'm Iekika." She greeted, turning her soft blue gaze to the girl again. Though it wasn't her duty to cheer anyone up, being her half vampire and all but she couldn't stand to see anyone cry. Her entire life had been nothing but tears and false happiness, she knew how it felt. She knew how it felt to have your entire family slaughtered by someone, she knew how it felt to have to kill your own twin because they had turned sides. Perhaps she knew all too well about how cruel life could be. Though she wasn't here to bring up her past, just to cheer this girl up.

Michelle looked up at theh girl next to her, "Hi, I am Michelle," she murmered, dipping her head. She sighed and stared out at thhe market, thoughtfully, "where do you work?" she asked "do you think i can get a job?" she asked curiousely, half hoping but not really hopeing. She had been hopefull before and then the hopes got smashed.

“I work at the castle” Iekika replied, though her second comment made the maid grin. Though the castle could use a bit more help, Jasiri couldn’t focus on hiring anyone right now. He was already wrapped up in so much work that he wouldn’t be able to accept her even if she did ask. But, being one from the royal place, she could get this girl a job. “No. I don’t think Jasiri could accept anymore help at the moment….but if you like I’m sure I could help you look for another job if you like.” She replied, turning her gaze to the people in the marketplace again. She hated being away from Jasiri but she loved seeing new faces for a change. Someone that wasn’t always lost in thought or didn’t have time to talk to her. Everyone knew everyone here, all sharing smiles and gossip. Before the war, Iekika would see this scene everyday but lately she hadn’t even been allowed away from the castle grounds. Half of the time the guards wouldn’t allow it, the other half she spent with Jasiri. A small sigh escaped the girl’s lips. look at me. I spend half my time with Jasiri and the other half worrying about his safety. I sound like some love sick puppy or something She told herself. This was the truth. She had spent so much time on the king that she had forgotten her old friends and life to help the king with whatever she possibly can. And for what too? Jasiri didn’t care the way she did and besides, Naruna as also in the picture. It wasn’t like the king would choose a simple maid over his own advisor.

"oh, i see thankyou," Michelle said sighing, and leaning back, staring up at the sky. she had known that no one would accept her as an employee, but she could hope. Sighing, she thought back to when her grandma had died, she had taken a piece of her hair and said, "my full name is now, Michelle avenger." but how could she avenge someone when she had no job?

bread and roses ;; there! it's perfect! mother had said as she placed the last touch to her painting. we had just come to khaev, and so far i hated it. i could tell she did too, even though she said that it needed time. things would have been a lot better if papa hadn't of died. we would have stayed in germany, i wouldn't have to learn english. this place didn't even have a synagogue! how was i suppose' to worship god with no temple? mama said we could just read the bible at home and it would be okay. i hoped she was right. i know all jews go to heaven, even if they are bad. ;; english is the hardest language i've ever tried to learn. other words substuite as words (homophones, i think) and there are so many words! mama already knew how to speak english, but i still can't understand her. she talks to fast. english is mama's native language, but she moved to germany with her papa who was in the airforce. there she met my papa and they fell in love, got married, and had me. sometimes i think i'm a mistake that can't be backspaced or erased.
;; rosa! wake up! there's work to do! i need a new set of oil paints, get me the good ones. not the cheap ones! hurry! i've got paintings to sell! mrs. serutti was barking out orders so fast that rosa was having a hard time keeping up with her. i'm doing my best, mama! she protested, looking at her worn shoes that had holes in them. look; i know you're tired but we need as much money as we can get. winter's coming. her mother said, grabbing the cloak made out of cotton and giving it to rosa, she pushed her out the door and into the crisp autumn air. grumbling, rosa began walking on towards the market. ;; khaev was a strange place. the people weren't friendly, unlike the people on the streets of germany. everyone would smile or wave to a passing person; but not the people of khaev. no, they would walk right on past you as if you didn't exist. rosa knew the market place would be crowded, so she would just have to expect people to be even more unfriendly. oh well. that's the way life is. rosa said mentally, her ugly shoes crunching on the dead leaves. ;; about half way there, rosa became bored with walking regulary. lifting herself up onto her tip toes, she leapt into the air with a might leap. her toes and feet curved so that when she landed it wouldn't hurt them. she was on pointe now, which took a while to achieve. once back on solid ground, she twirled, and then leapt again. her feet crossed she turned around in a tight circle, all the while on pointe, and then stopped; bowing. someday, i'll dance like the women in the nutcracker! she said to herself, breaking into a run. ;; the fimliar sounds and smells of people, food, sweat, and voices could really keep one on his or her toes. especially when their yelling at you. everyone was yelling at everyone and it was so confusing. pushing the hood farther over her head, she thought it might help to keep people from staring. well, to keep it out of her vision. if she couldn't see them looking at her, it was almost like they werent. ;; rosa knew right where the paint shop was. mama had come and shown her and together they bought paints and a canvas that day. it had been fun, they laughed and joked about old times and even made new funny times that would one day be joked at. walking up to the section with the paints on it, rosa slected the good type of oil paints and a canvas for her mama. pulling out the money, she handed the shiney metal coins to the man over the counter and he took it. rosa's small hands brushed his; they felt rough and ugly. he grumbled to himself and then shooed her off. how rude, she thought before turning and running straight into a woman with blue eyes who was dressed like a maid. ssss-orry.

Avenger? That seemed like the right last name for anyone these days. Everyone running around, fighting in the war to avenge someone lost because of this war or in the hands of Kamenwati. Her jaws parted to say something but they snapped shut as her reply was cut off by someone running into her. Soft blue gaze fell to the culprit, whomever it was they were light she could tell when they ran into her. There wasn't much force behind it. Her gaze softened when they met that of Rosa's. The girl was definatly underweight, her apperal old as if she owned them for many many years her hair slightly unkempt. Whoever she was, Iekika hadn't met her around either but then again who did she know? She knew Jasiri, the king of the region and that was it. She knew the king more then anyone did which had it's good points and bad. Because she worked for the castle and Jasiri, she wasn't allowed to leave unless everything was already done and the king allowed it. Then again, Jasiri had became her closest friend over the years. He had always been there for her just as she tried to be there for him.......and yet he never really saw her did he? She was just some maid to him and that was all she would ever be. Of course. This was the life of a maid.
She said nothing to Rosa at first, merely glanced from the girl to the small bag of paints the girl carried. It was obvious that who ever this girl was, she had already spent almost all her money on that small buy. Memories flooded back from her days on the street. Though she was forced to kill to survive, she had no home, no money and only a bloodstained outfit to claim. It was sad really. She could tell, from her heavy accent that she wasn't from around these parts, more like around the region of Germany. Yes. Germany would be her guess. Giving the small girl a smile, she replied, "It was nothing.". So what now? She could offer the girl some food but would that insult her? Would she think lower of Iekika if she showed some pity? No. She didn't care what the little girl thought of her next move.
The maid reached over to a nearby stand and grabbed a loaf of fresh-made bread. Setting her pay on the counter top, she handed the girl the bread. Though she said nothing....silence fit in perfectly here.

She picked up her bow that she had slid under the bench and started to walk away, her thoughts clouding her mind. - i really need a job- she thought -else how will i enter the war and avenge my parents?- sighing she bought some more food and wrapped it up so to last longer.

;; rosa hesitated at first, her blue eyes slightly wary. thinking for a minuite, she thought about what would happen if she took the bread. was this a trick? rosa's azul gaze drifted over the steaming bread, which was making her mouth water.
;; since she was unsure if the bread was for her, she opened her mouth to speak but relized she didn't know the english word for bread. not relizing that that didn't matter, being the forgiener that she was. thinking in the back of her head, as deep as she could rember, something clicked. she rembered that she didn't have to use the word bread in the seteance. for me?

Aspen sighed and looked at the people by her and said, "I must be going but if you have any work for me please tell me, i am skilled at the bow." Turning again she walked out to the field and strung her bow hitting the target in the center each time she got her thoughts under controll.
